This worldis only distantly similar to our own, and there are links to our world fromthis one, including a man celebrated in our own time for hiding away in a hole and reemerging to inform the world only to be hidden away, silenced, then killed. Something that will even be unclear by the end of this book.
Glamor is in our world a Caribbean Island seized by the American Empire and Fradoa its long changed capital.

The cast of characters would mimic people from my own life, at least initially. Those that aren't a part of my life anymore will only be referred to. A part of a past I no longer want.
Hildur, the Icelandic girl with a heart of lead, will appear initially. the younger girl who thinks that she's seen enough life to be dead inside. I'll have to find some sort of list of Icelandic names in such a case.
Janeen, the American girl, musician, is the one who tried to be there for my character as he sorts out things with Hildur, and later becomes a love interest until my character gets the feeling that, despite everything, there's something missing.
Then there's Irina, the Russian-Canadian girl, who instantly falls in love with everything that my character represents (instead of despite his particular 'scene'). This is the one we don't know about. Anything can happen, as far as Janeen and Irina go.
My character has a few guides, like one epitomized by David, who is pragmatic and sees his friend as going astray as far as life is concerned. My character also helps him sort things out, but nevertheless, both are too different in regard to what their future are shaping up to be.
Set this to a backdrop where American nationaism is at an all-time high, with a right-right wing regime taking over, with cooperation from a Fundamentalist Christian radical movement, in charge of disseminating propaganda to further the fascist movement.
The cause of this is the sudden mutant problem, wherein the head of state abolished civil rights doctrines when a renegade mutant (who was actually manipulated into attacking the head of state) did this and set fire to the white house. This is where the story starts, essentially, although this is only revisited as part of some Nationalism class, which is now a required class (in liew of factual history class).
Essentiall, Hildur is gifted with a power that allows her to turn hard as diamond (yet still malleable in order to move freely). Janeen'spower is making herself invisible and intangible. Irina is able to fly and emit hear at any degree of intensity from her body. My character is telepathic, telekinetic and has healing properties, including the ability to heal others telepathically, and to himself if her gets hurt, by only meditating.
The city of Fradoa in the island of Glamor has a remarkable history to it. at least according to the Nationalism class e-texts that the class use. According to this, a savage race of mutants used to inhabit this island until 1692 when the first Americans invaded, shooting down the race responsible for the near-permanent deforestation of this once-beautiful island. Its prize trade is of the cocaine leaf.
According to legend, those that have come to exhibit these no longer latent genes are actually tainted with the remains of an ancient drug which eventually destroyed what is considered the "soul" essence and created the most soulless of evil creatures that only appear to be slightly human.

Imagine a world where the gifted aren't superheroes or supervillains yet. No differentiation on the surface, just a few people in a strange city who start t think differently and cause things to happen. There is still the want of love and fun and all that stuff that eventually comes up, but for some reason, they now stand apart from humans. Just a tad.
Thain Braddock is an immature guitarist-songwriter with big dreams. He only begins to feel his powers of telepathy manifesting after his girlfriend dumps him. At the time, she was beginning to get worried that Thain would discover her (Janeen Bettany) powers of climate control and falling through floors and that he would overreact. Which he would have. At the time.
